HIKING CLUB HISTORY
Did you know? March of 1987 and 1988, the Hiking Club marched in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. The club also participated in, at least, one Winter Carnival parade on a cold Saturday night, January 30, 1937. All the hikers in that parade had to wear boots and breeches, popular hikers’ costumes of the time.
Bob Tholkes and the Ramsey County Historical Society collaborated on an article entitled, “Take a Hike, A Century of Walks with the St. Paul Hiking Club”, for the Winter 2021 issue of the Ramsey County History magazine. The Centennial Committee OK’d the purchase of a number of them for Club members. The magazines are available now from Bob Tholkes, 763-913-4453. They will also be available at our July Picnic & Centennial celebration. (Governor’s orders willing!)
